A 9-year-old child has died after he was struck by a political campaign bus while crossing an intersection in New York City.

An NYPD spokesman says driver Alexander Aponte, of Manhattan, has been charged with driving with a suspended license.

The accident occurred at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, as Ibrihim Ahmed, of Queens, walked home from school. He was struck by the bus in the intersection of Cross Bay Blvd. and Liberty Ave. and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bus was being used in Michael Ricatto's campaign. The candidate is in a special election for the 32nd City Council District seat being vacated by State Senator-elect Joseph Addabbo Jr.

A telephone call to Ricatto Enterprises requesting comment was not answered. An e-mail message sent to a spokeswoman was not immediately answered.
