The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a cruise ship employee who fell overboard, just two days after Mexico called off its search for a passenger believed to have fallen off another ship into the Gulf of Mexico on Christmas night.
The man works on the cruise ship Carnival Sensation, and co-workers reported him falling overboard around 12:50 a.m. Thursday, while the ship was at sea about 20 miles east of Vero Beach, Fla.
The Coast Guard dispatched search-and-rescue jets, helicopters and boats from Station Fort Pierce, Fla. The Carnival Sensation is also assisting with the search.
Carnival Corp., the world's largest cruise operator, is based in Miami. The Carnival Sensation makes three and four-day cruises to the Bahamas out of Port Canaveral on the east coast of central Florida.
