A US Airways spokesman says a Philadelphia-bound flight from New York made an unscheduled landing in northeastern Pennsylvania on Christmas day due to smoke in the cockpit.
Spokesman Derek Hanna says the US Airways Express Flight 4558 left Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, N.Y. at 4:25 p.m. Thursday. After smoke filled the cockpit, the Dash-8 aircraft was forced to land at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport at about 5:25 p.m.
Hanna says the flight landed without incident and all 32 passengers were accommodated on other flights.
The aircraft was operated by Piedmont Airlines, a subsidiary of US Airways Group.
