A Vallejo man with a prosthetic leg says he spent two nights at the bottom of a steep embankment after running his car off the road but eventually crawled to safety.

Authorities say 35-year-old Christopher Peifer was rescued Wednesday afternoon after making his way back up a 300-foot hillside where he was found by a FedEx driver.

Peifer ran off the road after losing control on a curve Monday night. He survived the 42-hour ordeal by sheltering in a sleeping bag he had in the car and finding water in a nearby creek.

Peifer was taken to a Napa hospital to be treated for a compound fracture to his arm and broken ribs.
