Machete Murder Trial Begins in Alaska

Jurors in Palmer heard opening statements in the trial of 29-year-old Christopher Erin Rogers Jr.

He's charged with killing his father with a machete and assaulting his father's fiancee a little more than a year ago.

Prosecutors on Thursday said Rogers then drove to Anchorage and shot four more people, killing two. He faces a January trial date in those incidents.

Palmer District Attorney Roman Kalytiak says prosecutors will prove Rogers is a bad man who committed a terrible crime.

He says Rogers intended to kill his father's fiancee, Elan Moren, and the only difference between the two crimes is that Moren lived and Rogers' father did not.
