A Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to 45 years in federal prison after apologizing for his role in a bizarre plot with a pizza deliveryman turned robber being killed by a bomb locked onto his neck.
Fifty-six-year-old Kenneth Barnes, of Erie, says in a federal courtroom that what happened to the deliveryman, Brian Wells, "wasn't supposed to be."
Barnes had pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy and a charge of aiding and abetting.
Wells died when the bomb exploded shortly after the robbery in August 2003. Wells' sister spoke in court Wednesday, asking Barnes to tell the whole truth about the plot.
The alleged mastermind is 59-year-old Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong. She's awaiting an exam to determine if she's mentally competent to stand trial.
