The bodies of two Ashville women who were reported missing over the weekend have been found in a submerged car.

The women were identified as 21-year-old Natasha Phillips and 20-year-old Ferlando Whisenant.

The two had gone out to celebrate Phillips' birthday and were last seen at a Birmingham nightclub between 12:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday.

Birmingham police spokesman Lt. Henry Irby said the women had apparently been headed home. Their car crashed through an Interstate 59 guardrail near Ashville and landed upside down in a stream that feeds into Pinedale Lake.

The vehicle was spotted Wednesday afternoon and the highway around the area was closed as the bodies were removed and the car was towed away.

The Alabama Department of Public Safety is investigating the case.
