Dozens of school children were taken to the hospital in South China after they inhaled a hazardous gas, Agence-France Presse reported.

The sulphurous gas was emitted by an illegal refinery near the school, which caused one boy to lose consciousness and several other kids to become sick, according to AAP.

In all, more than 100 students were hospitalized.

Officials have reportedly ordered the refinery to be demolished within three days.
