A German court has found an 18-year-old woman guilty of faking a neo-Nazi attack by carving a swastika into her skin.

A district court in the eastern town of Hainichen sentenced the woman to 40 hours of community service. The woman was identified only as Rebecca K. and was tried as a juvenile because she was 17 at the time of the crime.

She told authorities last November that four men attacked her in the small town of Mittweida. She claimed the men threw her to the ground and carved a swastika into her hip.

Authorities questioned her claim and the court ruled Friday she carved the symbol herself.

Far-right extremism is an increasing concern in eastern Germany.
