Allegheny County Medical Examiner Dr. Karl Williams says new safeguards are in place after a corpse was wrongly sent to Jamaica for burial.

Nineteen-year-old Kemoy Crawford was found dead in a burning trash pile in March and his family eventually requested his body be shipped to Jamaica. Workers shipped the wrong body, which had to be returned.

Williams says the mistake upset the man's family, and cost $9,000 to correct. He says one worker was terminated and three suspended. But the worker who Williams says was fired claims he resigned instead, but declined further comment.

Williams says the bodies got mixed up because both were unidentified at first and had wristbands listing the street where they were found. Both street names started with the letter 'A' prompting the confusion.
