After Hurricane Ike slammed into the city of Galveston, Texas on Sept. 13, 2008, some wondered how long it would take the town to rebuild.

On Nov. 1, former Trading Spaces host and Galveston native, Alex McLeod, returned to emcee the Beach Boys' "Stronger Than Ike" benefit concert and help with the rebuilding effort.

"Just a few weeks ago, people were afraid to come to Galveston," McLeod said from the stage at Moody Gardens Hotel. "Now we have 6,000 people in attendance here, which proves the Galveston community is indeed stronger than Ike."

Galveston Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas then proclaimed Nov. 1 "Beach Boys Day" in Galveston as the band took the stage.

A huge success, the "Stronger Than Ike" concert raised over $40,000 for the United Way of Galveston.
