Actress Kate Winslet is not shy about her insecurities and holds little back in a new interview with Vanity Fair magazine.
The star of the upcoming film “Revolutionary Road,” says she had doubts she would ever be famous because she “was fat.”
“I didn’t know any fat famous actresses,” the actress, who at five-foot-six once neared 200 pounds, told Vanity Fair. “I just did not see myself in that world at all, and I’m being very sincere. You know, once a fat kid, always a fat kid. Because you always think that you just look a little bit wrong or a little bit different from everyone else. And I still sort of have that.”

Winslet, 33, also added that, despite her fame, she feels self-conscious around the other mothers at her children’s (Mia, 8, and Joe, 5) school.
“You know these mothers are going to read this article and they’re all absolutely great, but I know when I walk into that classroom in the morning, even if it’s for a split second, at some point I’m being checked out,” she said.
But self-conscious or not, however, Winslet is undeniably a respected force in Hollywood. At 31, she became the youngest actress ever to be nominated five times for an Oscar, although she has never won.
As her friend and “Titanic” and “Revolutionary Road” co-star Leonardo DiCaprio said: “Kate is the most talented actress of her generation.”
