An elderly British man thwarted a jewelry shop raid in Richmond, wrestling and unmasking one of the sledgehammer-wielding robbers on Thursday, the Daily Mail reported.
The 83-year-old tackled the robber, ripping off the thief's ski mask, as a crowd of 50 stood by and watched. Shocked, the offender and his accomplice tossed their weapons and fled the scene, reports the Mail Online.
After foiling the raid, the man, identified as William Grove, smiled at his audience and casually caught the nearest bus.
“I thought it was brilliant that someone in this day and age can still have the guts to take on someone much younger and bigger,” Nick Thompson, a 35-year-old IT technician who watched from his office across the street, told the Mail. “Heroes like that don't think twice about these things.”
