TAMAROA, Ill. – Autopsies are scheduled for two toddlers who drowned in a submerged vehicle.
Perry County Sheriff Keith Kellerman said Wednesday that the 22-month-old and 3-year-old children died Tuesday when they became trapped inside the vehicle. The sheriff says rescuers pulled the children from the vehicle and they were taken to a hospital in nearby DuQuoin, where they were pronounced dead.
The children's mother, 36-year-old Bridgett Radake, told police she left her pickup truck to retrieve mail when the vehicle shifted into drive. She says the truck rolled into a pond and sank.
Perry County officials say autopsies are scheduled on the two children and that police and the coroner's office were investigating.
