Police hunted Tuesday for two gunmen who burst into a Brooklyn beauty salon, killing a 20-year-old man and wounding four bystanders — including an off-duty police officer who was getting her hair done.

Police said the gunmen had fired at Lethania Garcia as they chased him down the street Monday afternoon, then opened fire again after he fled into the De Lux Gallery salon. He was "clearly the target," police spokesman Paul J. Browne said.

At least 10 shots were fired, witnesses said. Shell casings littered the street.

"Everyone was running for their life," said Joseph Fequiere, 44, manager of a nearby tire store. "I went and hid in my store until it was over."

Four people were wounded, including a salon stylist wounded in the legs and the 41-year-old off-duty officer, who was shot in the foot, police said. She was unarmed at the time. Garcia was shot in the head.

The wounded victims, whose names were not released, were in stable condition Monday night, police said.

The shooters escaped in what witnesses described as a blue Chevrolet Tahoe, police said. No one had been arrested by Tuesday morning, and police said they did not know the motive for the shooting.
