GM May Get $5 Billion Loan to Merge With Chrysler

The Department of Energy is working to release $5 billion in loans to General Motors Corp, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar the situation.

The cash injection could help facilitate the auto maker's potential merger with Chrysler LLC.

The struggling auto maker has been in talks to merge with Chrysler LLC to help shore up cash and prevent a possible bankruptcy. Worries are that if one of the Big Three auto makers goes under, the rest will follow suit.
