Six People Convicted of Caging, Torturing Czech Children

Officials say six people have been convicted of child abuse and sentenced to prison in a case where two young brothers were put in a cage and tortured by their mother.

Judge Pavel Goeth on Friday sentenced the mother to nine years in prison and her sister to 10 years. The others all received sentences of at least five years.

The prosecution said the brothers were kept in the cage for a year and tortured, with the intention to "break the boys' will."

One of the defendants, Barbora Skrlova, 34, made international headlines when she was arrested earlier this year in Norway where she had been living disguised as a 13-year old boy. Skrlova is not related to the family.
