Alabama Police Allegedly Ram Car, Shoot Teen Passenger Dead

Authorities are investigating a Childersburg police shooting that killed an 18-year-old man after officers allegedly rammed his car while following him.

Tony Martin Jr. died Sunday night at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Martin's 17-year-old brother was in the newly purchased 1998 Mercury Cougar. He told The Daily Home newspaper that police followed them from a grocery story, but gave no explanation what prompted the police to pursue and ram the car from behind. Witnesses said Martin was fleeing when shot.

Childersburg Police Chief Charles Brown said Tuesday he could not release any details because the Alabama Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.

Brown said he could only confirm that an officer was involved and has been placed on administrative leave. The officer's name was not released.
