Chicago High Schooler Dies After Basketball Game Brick Attack

CHICAGO – A 17-year-old Chicago Public Schools student is dead after being attacked over the weekend with a brick.

Robert Bowens said his son, Shaun, was hit on the head from behind after running from a fight that followed a basketball game.

The 17-year-old Gage Park High School student died Tuesday at Stroger Hospital. The Cook County medical examiner's office has not labeled the teen's death a homicide.

Bowens said his son was attacked by 10 other youths after he was struck by the brick. He said all those involved went to school together.

Chicago police say Bowens was involved in a quarrel that turned into a fight Sunday evening on the city's South Side. Police spokeswoman Sergeant Antoinette Ursitti said detectives are conducting a death investigation.
