A prison inmate who escaped a week ago at Philadelphia International Airport while in the custody of a private security guard has been captured.

The Delaware Department of Corrections says the U.S. Marshals Service took Taariq Ali into custody about 8:30 p.m. Friday in Elkton, Md.

An investigation led marshals to a home where they interviewed people, then searched the residence. They found Ali in a first-floor bedroom.

Ali was serving a life sentence for attempted murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He was transferred in 1995 to California. He was being returned Sept. 12 to Delaware when he escaped from the custody of a contractor specializing in prisoner transport.

He is in maximum security at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna.
