A woman was stabbed more than 20 times by an unknown man while shopping in a U.K. supermarket, the Daily Mail newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The unidentified 22-year old was in the grocery store in West Sussex, England, when she was attacked. After several jabs with a knife, the attacker wrestled her to the ground and continued to stab her chest and neck while straddling her, the paper reported.

Another female shopper then stepped in, dragging the woman away from her attacker.

“She was screaming and he was screaming at her. She fell to the ground and he got on top of her and carried on stabbing her in the neck and body,” the shopper, Bonnie Brown told The Daily Mail. “I just went up to her and grabbed her legs and pulled her away, leaving a trail of blood in the aisle. She needed to be pulled away. Everyone was screaming and crying.”

A security guard then pinned the attacker while shoppers and store staff tended to the woman. “She was conscious but wasn't saying much. She was just lying in a pool of blood,” Brown said.

Police know no connection between the woman and her attacker, the paper reported.
