Two men entered a St. Louis bar Monday intent on robbing the place, officials said. But they didn't realize it was a haunt frequented by police and one left with a bullet in the buttocks.

Police said the shooting occurred late Monday night at Pooh's Corner bar, an establishment frequented by police, MyFOXSTL.com reports.

Police said a retired officer in the bar shot one of the suspects in the buttocks after they announced their intention to rob it.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for surgery. There was no word on his condition.

The second suspect got away.

The name of the retired officer was not released. It wasn't immediately known if either suspect had a weapon.

Residents told MyFOXSTL.com that it is common knowledge the bar is a cop hangout.
