The body of a newborn baby was found amongst the rubbish at a recycling plant in Cambridgeshire, England, Wednesday.
The grim discovery was made by a member of staff at the site in Fengate, Peterborough.
Cambridgeshire police have sealed off the area. “We were called at 7:30 a.m. after a worker at the recycling center discovered the body of a newborn baby,” said a police spokeswoman.
“The scene has been preserved and we are the treating the death as suspicious. The body was found amongst the rubbish.”
The spokeswoman said the baby had yet to be identified. It is not yet known if the body was that of a boy or a girl.
The plant processes recyclable waste from the local area. The facility, which opened in 1997, is owned by Peterborough City Council operated by Viridor Waste Management Ltd.
A council spokesman said: “The materials recycling facility will remain closed while police continue their investigation following the tragic discovery."
