LOS ANGELES – "Heroes" actress Hayden Panettiere says her father's arrest on suspicion of felony spousal abuse earlier this month was "blown way out of proportion."
"It was blown way out of proportion by a sheriff who wanted his 15 minutes of fame," she tells "Extra." "My family is wonderful — so very happy. We're all great."
Earlier this month, Panettiere's parents told "Extra" that the arrest "was all a big misunderstanding."
Although a police report claims Alan Panettiere, 49, struck his wife Lesley three times (leaving a bruise), the couple told "Extra" that “nothing actually happened."
“[We] love each other very much and want everyone to know that the matter was completely blown out of proportion,” they tell "Extra."
Panettiere was arrested by Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies in West Hollywood and detained on suspicion of spousal assault, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said. He was later released after posting $50,000 bail.
Hayden Panettiere plays Claire Bennett on NBC's hit show, "Heroes."
