Energy Secretary Samuel W. Bodman admitted himself into Massachusetts General Hospital on Tuesday night, suffering from an elevated heart rate, the Department of Energy announced Wednesday.

Bodman expects to remain there for a few days while he undergoes a series of routine tests, and is canceling an appearance at New Mexico State University scheduled for Thursday.

White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said she didn't have anything to add to the Energy Department's statement except to add that the president was informed last night.

"I understand Secretary Bodman is doing very well," she said.

An administration official speaking on background said doctors say Bodman is "doing fine, but they want him to stay for tests.”
