BATON ROUGE, La. — University officials say an LSU student, who is not yet being identified, has died of meningitis.

In a campus e-mail, interim Chancellor William Jenkins said there is no threat of an outbreak because the student lived off campus and was not enrolled in summer classes.

LSU says the student died Wednesday night.

In his e-mail, Jenkins said he wanted to assure the campus that precautions have been taken for those who may have come in contact with the student. He says none of them have shown symptoms of the meningitis, and all indications are this is an isolated case.
