Kentucky's adjutant general says the state is changing its flag policy for fallen soldiers — again.
Maj. Gen. Edward Tonini says this time the policy will include lowering flags to half-staff for all personnel deployed from a military institution in the state. Tonini says that includes natives, permanent residents or those stationed at a military base in Kentucky such as Fort Campbell or Fort Knox.
Kentucky changed its policy in June to exclude lowering the flag for soldiers whose hometown was outside the state. The policy in effect before the June policy had resulted in lengthy stretches of the flags being at half staff.
Tonini says the change in June, first reported by The Associated Press, was intended to highlight the honor being paid to Kentucky residents killed in action.
Tonini says the new policy takes effect immediately.
