"Cheers" and "Frasier" star Kelsey Grammer's heart attack was caused by stress over his recently canceled sitcom "Back to You," he told People magazine.

"It was a very stressful time for me, and a surprise to me [that it was canceled]," the actor, 53, said Wednesday. "But you know, everything that doesn't kill us — which it almost did — makes us stronger."

The show, which also starred "Everybody Loves Raymond" actress Patricia Heaton, featured Grammer as a pompous TV news anchor. It was canceled in May after only one season and respectable ratings.

"Not happy about it," said Grammer. "I had a heart attack, maybe you heard. I was not happy about it."

Though the actor's rep told reporters that Grammer's heart attack was mild, he insists that it was much more serious — in fact he had to be resuscitated after his heart stopped.

"They had to blast me twice and get me started all over again," he told "Entertainment Tonight" in an interview to be aired Thursday night.

"I did think: 'Oh gosh, I have got to hang on. I've got too much junk I've got to take care of. I've got to take care of the family."
