Police: Woman Traded Car, Cell Phone for Crack Cocaine

Police in Chattanooga filed charges after a woman's report of a carjacking didn't hold up.

Investigators said Melanie Vicente of Ooltewah told police she pulled off Interstate 24 when a "check engine" light came on early Wednesday morning. She said four men approached her, beat her and took her car.

Sergeant Jerri Weary said Vicente's story changed several times before police determined she had traded her car and her cell phone for four rocks of crack cocaine.

Police said Vicente admitted smoking crack before calling 911.

Officers charged her with filing a false report.
