Two watchdogs of reconstruction efforts in Iraq are reportedly in the clear.
A grand jury declined to indict the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, Stuart Bowen, and his deputy, Ginger Cruz, officials said. Former employees accused them of fraud and abuse.
Last week, the President's Council on Integrity and Efficiency also cleared the two.
Bowen and Cruz denied any wrongdoing. Cruz said being absolved of anything criminal or administrative is "a very welcome sense of closure."
A complaint two years ago from former staff members included allegations that Bowen's office overstated the amount of savings it generated to justify a budget request. There were also accusations of sexual harassment and money wasted on a book project.
