Gang members apologized when they realized the Modesto man they were attacking was not their intended victim, The Modesto Bee reported Tuesday.
Four men kicked down the door of the south Modesto, Calif. home while the 32-year-old victim was sleeping. They punched, kicked and stabbed the man in the upper right side of his back before realizing they had the wrong house — and the wrong man.
"The gang members tried to apologize for what they had done and they left,” Sgt. Craig Gundlach told the Modesto Bee. The man was rushed to hospital and is in serious but stable condition.
Gundlach said the apologetic attackers escaped in an old gray car, possibly with a woman behind the wheel. One was described by witnesses as shirtless with tattoos, and in his 30s. The others appeared between 18 and 20 years old.
