John Beyrle Takes Up Post as New U.S. ambassador to Russia

The new U.S. ambassador to Russia has taken up his post, replacing William Burns, who has become U.S. undersecretary of state for political affairs.

The 54-year-old John Beyrle has served two previous tours of duty in Moscow, including as deputy chief of mission. Most recently, he was ambassador to Bulgaria.

Beyrle's arrival was announced in a U.S. Embassy statement Thursday.
