A suspicious package at the World Bank headquarters two blocks from the White House turned out not to be a threat, police in Washington said.

District of Columbia police Officer Quintin Peterson said no explosives or hazardous materials were found. The bank said in a statement that a man approached a security officer at the 18th Street entrance about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday with a suspicious package. Police were notified, and the man was taken into custody.

Employees were asked to stay put until the incident was resolved. The building was not evacuated.
