Model Ruslana Korshunova left depressed messages on her computer before she plummeted from her ninth-floor apartment, the New York Post reports.
Investigators examining the 20-year-old Kazakh model's death say the messages discuss problems with her love life and feelings of homesickness.
These messages — along with a knife left near the window — seem to indicate Korshunova cut a hole in construction mesh covering her ninth-floor balcony, squeezed through it and plunged to her death.
Korshunova had recently broken up with longtime boyfriend Artem Perchenok, who hoped to get back with the model, and had begun seeing Mark Kaminsky. Friends say she was lonely and suffered from a stomach ailment in the days leading up to her death.
However, others describe the model, who was discovered at age 15 and made the cover of French Elle, as cheerful and unlikely to commit suicide. Perchenok said "it was a slip and a fall. That's what we all want to believe."
A medical examiner found no signs of a struggle or DNA underneath her fingernails, which is commonly found on people who have fought with attackers.
