The mother of the 2-year-old girl who was known only as "Baby Grace" for weeks after her dead body was found in Galveston Bay has given birth to another child.
Kimberly Dawn Trenor, 19, of Spring, gave birth Thursday afternoon at Mainland Medical Center, said Maj. Mike Henson, Galveston County Jail commander. The child, a boy, was immediately taken from her, Henson told the Houston Chronicle in an online report on Saturday.
Besides medical and law-enforcement personnel, the only other person present was an attorney with adoption papers to sign.
Trenor was returned to jail on Friday, and no information was immediately available on the infant's adoptive parents.
DNA tests identified Baby Grace as Riley Ann Sawyers after her remains were found in a plastic container by a fisherman on Oct. 29.
Trenor and her husband, Royce Clyde Zeigler II, 25, are accused of beating Riley to death July 25 in their Spring home.
Trenor told police she and Zeigler beat and tortured Riley to death July 24 in a disciplinary session that veered out of control. Zeigler's attorney has denied that account. Trenor said they hid the girl's body in a shed for two months before dumping it in Galveston Bay.
Trenor and Zeigler were arrested Nov. 24. Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty in the case, and the two remain in the Galveston County Jail in lieu of $750,000 bail each. Their trial is set for Nov. 3.
Riley's identity was a mystery for weeks after a box holding her body washed ashore. Her paternal grandmother, Sheryl Sawyers, led police to Trenor and Zeigler after seeing a police artist's rendering of the girl.
Trenor had moved with her daughter from Mentor, Ohio to Texas last year to be with Zeigler, whom she met online.
The island in West Galveston Bay where Riley's body has been officially named Riley's Island.
