BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Kern County rescue teams are looking for a teenager who disappeared in the Kern River — the third person this weekend to succumb to the river's swift currents.
Authorities say the teen's body has not been found. The 18-year-old boy's name was not immediately released.
The sheriff's department received a call around noon on Sunday about the teen, who was last seen stranded on a rock in the middle of the river.
Earlier in the weekend, two others drowned while swimming in the river about 100 miles north of Los Angeles.
Thirty-eight-year-old Gonzalo Acosta, of Glendale, drowned Saturday while rescuing his 16-year-old daughter. She was unhurt.
And 24-year-old Agustin Vasquez Diaz — who could not swim — drowned Friday when his inflatable tube popped.
