Russia President: U.S. Missile Defense 'Harmful'

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev says the planned U.S. missile defense system in Europe would hurt European security.

Medvedev's statement after Friday's Russia-EU summit repeats a criticism by his predecessor and mentor, Vladimir Putin.

In his most specific comment on the issue to date, Medvedev said U.S. plans are "harmful" and urges the European Union to engage in talks on a new security pact for the continent.
