A 12-year-old "angelic-looking boy" in England was in police custody Wednesday after allegedly sending his classmates a video depicting a Westerner’s beheading, the Daily Mail reported.
The child, who is described as white and not a Muslim, is among a group of 124 people being held in an initiative to combat Islamic-inspired violent extremism, the Mail reported. The group of detainees includes at least two 15-year-olds as well.
"He spoke openly of his wish to be a sniper and spoke of his curiosity of what it would be like to kill someone," West Yorkshire Chief Constable Sir Norman Bettison said of the boy, whose teacher alerted authorities after learning of the beheading video.
Police said the boy came to Britain in July 2005 as an asylum-seeker and was accused of helping a 9-year-old and 12-year-old boy rape his sister, but he was not prosecuted, the Daily Mail reported.
"He is not driven by ideology; he is too young to spell the word," Bettison told the Daily Mail. “But he is being influenced and intoxicated by the imagery and appeal of Jihadist and other Internet violence."
