GUTHRIE, Okla. – A charter bus carrying 52 passengers to a church camp in Texas slammed into the back of a pickup truck along Interstate 35 on Saturday, killing the pickup's driver.
None of the 52 passengers or the driver were injured, said Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Chris West.
The accident happened about 2 p.m. Saturday in the southbound lanes of the interstate south of Guthrie in Logan County.
"Apparantly the driver wasn't paying attention and was gaining on the pickup truck," West said. "Witnesses say he swerved at the last minute but was unable to avoid the truck."
The driver of the pickup, who had just purchased the truck at an estate sale, was ejected and died at the scene, West said. His name wasn't immediately released.
The bus was carrying a group of students from a church in Olathe, Kan., to a church camp in Texas, West said.
