It was something borrowed, something black and blue for one bride, according to a lawsuit.
A British couple is fighting their wedding caterer in court, alleging she stole the funds to cater their reception, and then attacked them with a friend when they confronted her about it, the Sunderland Echo reported Wednesday.
Bernadette Henderson and Eric McGibbon, from Leechmere, England, claim they paid Joyce Miller $293 to provide food for 130 guests at their wedding reception last July.
They told Newcastle Crown Court that on the eve of their wedding day during a car ride, Miller told them her sons had spent all the money for the event, and their guests would have no food, the Echo reported.
“About half-a-mile down the road Miller blurted out there was no catering, her sons had taken the money and spent it,” McGibbon told the Echo.
The couple then followed Miller to the home of Kevin Forster, 39, where they say they were attacked, and both needed to be treated at the hospital. Henderson claims she sustained a wound to her eye.
McGibbon told the court Foster hit him 10 or 12 times, and was bitten by his dog, leaving him covered in blood.
“I just wanted answers as to what had happened with either the catering or the money,” McGibbon said.
The couple claim they spent the early morning of their wedding day in the hospital, and were left with less than $100 to feed their guests.
Forster denies harming Henderson or assaulting McGibbon. He says the couple attacked him during the catering confrontation, which he knew nothing about, the Echo reported.
