6 Sailors Participating in Gulf of Mexico Boat Race Missing

The Coast Guard says it's searching for six people in the Gulf of Mexico who were competing in a boat race.

Authorities say a sailboat matching the description of one reported missing was found capsized Saturday with no one in sight.

The Coast Guard says communication with the boat was lost around midnight Friday. The boat missed an 8 a.m. radio check.

The boat was part of the 40th annual Regata de Amigos. The race covers hundreds of miles from Galveston to Veracruz, Mexico. It started Friday and continues into next week.

Petty Officer Renee C. Aiello says the six adults are experienced mariners. Two are safety instructors.
