The National Weather Service has issued tornado warnings for parts of Illinois.

The warnings were in effect until about 11 a.m. EDT Tuesday for southern Richland County in southeast Illinois and southeastern Clay County in the south central part of the state.

Meteorologists detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing twisters that was moving east at 34 miles per hour, about four miles away from Clay City.

Funnel clouds were spotted in the region.

Those in the area were advised to stay indoors and away from windows on the lowest possible level of the building. Drivers were told not to take shelter under highway overpasses.
