A mountain lion that was roaming a West Jordan neighborhood has been caught.

Police say the Division of Wildlife Resources shot the cougar with a tranquilizer dart around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. The big cat ran around for a few more minutes until the sedative kicked in and agents were able to get the cougar into a cage.

The DWR will decide where to release the young male back in the mountains — far away from the neighborhood.

Residents in the neighborhood were told to keep their children and pets inside after the cougar was sighted early Tuesday.
