A Los Angeles police officer has opened fire at an alleged drunken driver's car after the motorist failed to stop.

Police Capt. Mark Olvera says the incident happened Thursday night when a motorcycle officer began following a man believed to be driving drunk.

The officer tried to pull the motorist over, but he did not stop and a chase ensued.

Olvera says the pursuit ended on Foothill Boulevard underneath the 210 Freeway when the man began driving in the wrong direction, struck a curb and then drove toward the officer on the motorcycle.

The officer fired at the car twice but did not hit the driver. He was taken into custody and later booked on suspicion of drunken driving.
