NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Justice Department said a former Army Corps of Engineers worker and a subcontractor have been indicted on bribery charges stemming from an investigation into levee work after Hurricane Katrina.
On Thursday, a federal grand jury in New Orleans indicted Durwanda Elizabeth Morgan Heinrich, a dirt, sand and gravel subcontractor, with one count of conspiring to commit bribery and two counts of offering a bribe to a public official.
Kern Carver Bernard Wilson was charged with one count of conspiring to commit bribery and one count of demanding and agreeing to accept a bribe as a public official.
In September, another former corps contract worker pleaded guilty to bribery in connection with the same $16 million levee reconstruction project at Lake Cataouatche south of New Orleans.
