A toddler in Fort Yukon was attacked and killed by a dog after the boy wandered into a neighbor's back yard.
Fort Yukon police officer Chris Inderrieden says the 1 1/2-year-old child was killed Monday afternoon. The child's name has not been released.
The officer says the toddler wondered across the street and into the neighbor's back yard while the dog was eating.
Inderrieden says the toddler "got too close to the dog and the dog attacked him."
The child's father took the boy to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police returned to the home Monday evening and shot and killed the dog.
He said the dog, a husky-mix about 3 years old, had no prior history of bad behavior.
