A 14-year-old boy accidentally shot his friend in the leg while the two were playing video games in a Gillette home.

The 14-year-old victim was taken to Campbell County Memorial Hospital by his parents after the incident Saturday and was treated and released.

The boys had been playing down in the basement while the victim's parents were upstairs. Police say he was playing Xbox while his friend handled a Heritage, .22-caliber, single-shot revolver.

Unaware that the gun was loaded, the boy pulled the hammer halfway and then his thumb slipped and he dropped the gun and it went off. The bullet entered on the outside of the victim's left leg near the calf and exited on the other side.
