HARTFORD, Conn. – A hospital spokeswoman says a pregnant Coventry woman has died just days after her boyfriend was accused of shooting her in front of their two children.
A Hartford Hospital spokeswoman says 27-year-old Amanda Realie died Thursday morning. Doctors were not able to save her unborn child.
State police Lt. J. Paul Vance says prosecutors will probably upgrade charges against 43-year-old Alfredo Ferrer at his next court appearance next week.
He has already been charged with attempted murder and other crimes after police say he shot Realie and then took his children to the parking lot of Bidwell Tavern, where he works.
Police say he threatened to kill himself while holding his 2-year-old child, but officers convinced him to hand over the child and then subdued him with a stun gun.
According to a police report, Ferrer told officers that his gun went off accidentally during an argument with Realie.
He is being held on $1.25 million bond.
