Two doctors believe a surgery called duodenal jejunal bypass may put some people with type 2 diabetes into remission, reports 1010 WINS.

According to Dr. Mahdu Rangraj and Dr. Leonard Maffucci of Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle, N.Y., the surgery would lower the patients’ blood sugar to normal levels and prevent foods from coming into contact with the first part of the small intestine.

And – the minimally invasive process is reversible.

The doctors have performed four surgeries thus far; they are planning a fifth for Tuesday. All four patients have been taken off most of their diabetic medications after the surgeries, the doctors said.
