Iran Rejects U.S. Claim That Tehran Funds Shiite Militias in Iraq

Iran is rejecting U.S. claims that Tehran provides money and weapons to Shiite Muslim militias in Iraq.

The top American military commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, told the U.S. Congress on Tuesday that Iran funds, equips and trains Shiite militiamen who have attacked U.S. and Iraqi forces.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said Wednesday that the U.S. has "no correct understanding of facts." He accused Petraeus of trying to blame America's own Iraq failures on Iran.
